Big Turnout for City Fall Stream Clean

Over one hundred residents came out for the city's seasonal Stream Clean on Saturday, October 15.

Organized by the city's Green Team volunteers and Planning Department staff, the biannual clean up of city water ways removes hundreds of pounds of trash and debris. This year was no exception.

According to the city Planning Department, 109 residents turned up this year at preselected meeting points covering five streams across the city. Public Works stream maintenance crews said collected trash weighed in at over 980 pounds.

Among the collected debris were several discarded sneakers, hundreds of glass beer bottles, shopping carts, and several furniture items, including lawn tables and sofa cushions.

The city Planning Department was especially grateful to the many organizations that provided volunteers.

Among the participating groups were the Leo Club of Benjamin Tasker Middle School, Prince George’s Community College biology students, chapters of Bowie Girl Scouts, and the Tzu Ching chapter of the University of Maryland College Park.

The city's Communications Department shared that a bald eagle was sited above the woods near Benjamin Tasker Middle School towards the end of the clean up event.

The city's Spring Stream Clean is slated for April, 2023.
