Bowie Race Track Task Force Meets

The Bowie Race Track Task Force met last week to tour the site and begin formal discussions on the property's future.

The task force consists of representatives from neighboring HOAS, Bowie residents, Bowie State University faculty, students, and administrators, the Bowie City Council, M-NCPPC, and Bowie recreational and environmental groups.

The twenty-three member group is charged with developing a concept plan for the Bowie Race Track property, including programs, improvement timelines, and development costs.

The Bowie Race Track is still controlled by the Maryland Jockey Club and will be conveyed to the City of Bowie by December 2023. A part of the conveyance requires the city to adhere to an MOU with Bowie State University on certain joint programs and recreational uses.

Per state law, the site can only be used for recreational and community purposes with a maximum building capacity equivalent to the existing Bowie city gym.

The task force will generate a final report by July 2023. A recent history of the property and additional task force details can be found here.
